The DCEU Expands: 10 Actors Who Could Play Blackhawk

It has been reported for a couple of years now that Steven Spielberg will direct a Blackhawk movie, and while the DCEU as we know it has been crumbling to pieces, this certain project has not yet been abandoned. This move was last reported on in December of 2019, giving fans of the character hope that it will actually come to fruition. While no other definitive moves have been made to put this project on the screen, attaching an actor to the role is a crucial step, so here are a handful of people who could do the film justice.

1. Josh Brolin

When it comes to the actual look for Blackhawk, hardly anyone captures it as good as Josh Brolin does. He has the dark hair, the chiseled jaw, and he is mature enough to be seen as a strong leader. When it comes to A-list actors, it does not get much bigger than Brolin as the hard-nosed leader of the Blackhawks.

2. Jon Hamm

Speaking of the look for Blackhawk, Jon Hamm is almost the character ripped off the page. He has the tall, dark and handsome appearance that is associated with the character, and he certainly has the personality to play a hotshot, ace pilot. Hamm may not be as strong of a lead as some other actors in Hollywood, but he certainly has the chops to deliver an excellent performance.

3. Eric Bana

Eric Bana has not been in the forefront of casting directors’ minds for a few years now, but this movie could change that for him. Blackhawk could be the perfect second chance at a superhero role for Bana, and he may fit into the character perfectly. Bana could bring a certain amount of grit and even some darkness to the project, and after the success of Joker, that seems to be what the fans truly want.

4. Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy would be great for Blackhawk if the studio wanted a younger, more relevant actor. Hardy has starred as several comic book characters, multiple tough guys, and even a pilot in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. He has all of the experience in the world to take on this exact role, and while his calendar stays full, a Steven Spielberg directed movie should be enough to encourage him to clear his schedule.

5. Tom Welling

While Tom Welling is mainly a TV actor, it is never too late to have a breakout role. Most DC fans already recognize him as Smallville’s Superman, so it would not take much work to make him a household name for everyone. Welling is a seasoned acting veteran, and the role of Blackhawk could be one that pushes him to the next level of fame.

6. Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler is a gritty action star who utterly commands the screen whenever he is acting. Surprisingly enough, Butler has never been cast in a superhero movie before, although he seems perfect for the type of role that these films demand. When it comes to the manliest action stars on the big screen, it does not get any better than Gerard Butler, which could make him the best Blackhawk we could ever see.

7. Tyler Hoechlin

Does the studio want a young actor who looks the part while also having future superstar potential? Then look no further than the CW’s own Superman: Tyler Hoechlin. Even though he has been starring in blockbuster movies since he was a child, Hoechlin has yet to become a household name, while accumulating years of acting experience. As far as rising stars go, Tyler Hoechlin is ideal for Blackhawk and has the potential to headline a major motion picture.

8. Jeremy Renner

While Jeremy Renner was supposed to star in his own Hawkeye television series, that project seems to be delayed indefinitely, freeing the actor up to go back to starring in more box office hits. Renner was a perfect fit for Hawkeye, and he could bring the same kind of brash, charismatic personality to Blackhawk. Everyone knows him from the MCU, so casting him as a DC Comics character would be a genius idea in order to bring interest to this film.

9. Karl Urban

Karl Urban has been involved in some of the greatest franchises in the world, including The Lord of the Rings, the MCU, and Star Trek. This may be because he is an actor that can play any role you in front of him, but it is definitely because people like him, meaning that he is absolutely capable of carrying a movie like Blackhawk on his back. Urban is a master at being gruff while also showing a softer side when the character calls for it, and that is a skill that could be invaluable for this particular DC character.

10. Nathan Fillion

Blackhawk will likely be a more serious role, but every superhero movie tries to incorporate the slightest bit of humor, and that is where Nathan Fillion comes in. Fillion is more than capable of delivering a dramatic performance, but his natural personality is so hilarious, and that is something that should be utilized for this character. He may not be the most popular actor in the world, but he is a good enough fit to take on this particular persona.
