10 Characters That Are Bound to Die in the Last Season of Game of Thrones

via HBO.com

Alas, what many people believe to be the greatest TV show of all time is coming to an end, and many characters will undoubtedly meet their doom before it is over. Game of Thrones is known for killing main characters without remorse, and the last season will be no different. I have compiled a list of characters that I think will die at the hands of The Night King or some other force, and I hope you agree with me!

1. Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion has been seen by many as the antagonist of the show ever since the death of Eddard Stark, but I think that he might die before the end of this season. Honestly, what has Tyrion’s story arc been in the last season? He advises Daenerys, he sucks at it, and he doesn’t really tell jokes anymore. Of course we see his internal struggle play out when he watches his family’s soldiers get slaughtered, but the show can absolutely go on without Tyrion being on it. It would be a way to really devastate fans, and it would stop the nonsense of trying to create some kind of plot struggle so he can have a purpose on the show.

2. Jorah Mormont

Just like Tyrion, you have to question what Jorah’s purpose on the show is anymore. He’s been trying to get in bed with Daenerys like he has for seven straight seasons, and I don’t think he’s done one useful thing the whole time he’s been on the show. Maybe I’m speaking from bias, considering that Jorah is probably my least favorite character, but I think The Night King may trim off a lot of extra fat that the writers can’t really put into the story anymore.

3. Brienne of Tarth

While Brienne is a skilled fighter with a Valyrian steel sword, we may be seeing a lot of fighters die this season. She will no doubt be on the front lines, and while she might give the army of the dead a hell of a fight, I think she will eventually be overcome in battle. This would mark a turning point for the emotional direction of the show, and bring a lot of loyal fans to their knees, which makes it exactly something that the showrunners would want to do.

4. Melisandre

There are so many factors that leads to the conclusion of Melisandre’s death that there is almost no denying it. Just this last season, she had a strand of dialogue where she predicted her own death, she’s on Arya’s hit list, and she’s pissed off almost every other main character on the show. I couldn’t begin to predict in what fashion The Red Witch will die in this, but I would almost guarantee that she will meet a timely end.

5. Varys

As I said before, there was a strand of dialogue in season seven where Melisandre predicts her own death, and at the same time alludes to Varys will too die. You can’t get more definite in result than someone who can usually predict the future, and while Varys is usually good at getting out of bad situations, I don’t think he will be able to talk his way out of a White Walker attack. No matter how much I want The Spider to survive The Great War, I can’t shake the feeling that he will indeed spin his final web, and with potential to do so in spectacular fashion.

6. Daenerys Targaryen

There has been a lot of speculation that the famous “last Targaryen” will meet her end in the last season, and I happen to agree with the theory. Whether or not she dies giving birth like the general theory suggests, I don’t think that she will survive The Great War, leading to a lot of people being heartbroken. Leave it up to Game of Thrones to kill a mess of characters that have been on the show since season one, and that’s something that I foresee the writers doing.

7. Bronn

Like I said earlier, fighters tend to die, and Bronn is one of the fighters without a Valyrian steel sword. We’ve seen Bronn have many close calls, the most recent of which is when he single handedly tried to kill a dragon last season, and you can’t take those kinds of risks when it comes to fighting an entire army of undead monsters. I see Bronn going out in a blaze of glory, and even though he might not make it to the finale, I’m sure he won’t die in vain.

8. Sandor Clegane

In order for the living characters we all love so much to win the upcoming war, everyone is going to have to fight, and even though they’re sure to win, they won’t be able to do so without major casualties. Even though The Hound is by far my favorite character, he’s been bested in battle before, and will likely be overwhelmed by the hoards of White Walkers. Making the ultimate sacrifice so that others may live is the best way for Sandor to meet his maker, and I’m sure he’ll be spouting several familiar curse words as he does it.

9. Cersei Lannister

While she may be the current Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, how satisfying would it be for us to finally see her die a horrible death? Everyone hates Cersei, and I would find it unbecoming of the show to not murder her in the worst way possible. Whether she gets killed by Jon or Daenerys, and she falls victim to the Army of the Dead, I think that Cersei Lannister is for sure a goner.

10. Davos Seaworth

Ser Davos has never been much of a warrior, but that won’t stop him from fighting on the front lines with all of his friends. I would imagine Davos being in the thick of battle, but his lack of combatant skills will undoubtedly put him into a position that there’s no getting away from. Davos is one of the few people on this list I think might actually have a chance of surviving the whole show, but I have a gut feeling that with so much bloodshed on the horizon, he may be just another victim.
