From the first day that a movie projection was turned on, films have become part of dating culture. Whether it’s a first date with that girl or guy you met at the coffee shop, or a year into a relationship, movies and dating go together like peanut butter and jelly. That being said, it’s no secret that guys and girls have very different tastes when it comes to watching movies on that special date night. Your date may love films that tug at the heartstrings, or films that use bullets to remove the heart altogether!
Why does the date have to be about choosing a film that only one person will enjoy? There are tons of movies that cater to both parties. So, let’s take a look at five date night movies that both guys and girls will love.
5. ‘Legends Of The Fall’ (1994)
This classic film stars Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins in a sweeping story set in the 1900s. The plot follows two brothers who have returned from World War I, only to fall for the same woman. What follows is a story of betrayal, history, love, nature and war. The film is very romantic yet also has plenty of action and excitement as the brothers tangle with soldiers, gangsters and grizzly bears. It’s a great film for history buffs as well as those who enjoy good acting and a rich narrative.
4. ‘The Last Of The Mohicans’

The film has a haunting and beautiful music score and features massive and intense battles. It’s a film that will tick off all the boxes for both her and him.
3. ‘Jerry Maguire’ (1996)
Sports and romance — what could make for a better date night movie? With a cast that is a who’s who of the ’90s including: Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger, Kelly Preston and Cuba Gooding Jr (What happened to you, Cuba!?), it’s a fun story about a sports agent (Tom Cruise) who is fired for expressing a moral epiphany. He then must rebuild his career with only one client left. Along the way, he finds love and a reason for living. It’s a great story that is touching and funny at the same time. It has some great performances from the cast and will give you a healthy jolt of nostalgia.
2. ‘Sleepless In Seattle’ (1993)
While remembered as a romantic comedy, Sleepless in Seattle is also a well made drama that touches on the themes of love, loss, family and moving on in a funny and enjoyable way. It is also packed with a very good cast that includes such veterans as Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Bill Pullman, David Hyde Pierce and Rita Wilson.
The plot follows the son of a recently widowed man, whose son calls into a radio show in an attempt to find a new partner for his grieving father. The story is touching and features a well written script and a great setting for the story. It’s a perfect movie to watch on a cold and rainy night while snuggling up with your partner.

Casablanca is a film that literally has it all — action, romance, humor and espionage (and evil NAZIS!). It is a classic film that tells the tale of a cynical American expatriate who then encounters a former lover and tangles with the Nazi occupation of Casablanca as well as the French resistance. It features smoldering chemistry between Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, as well as an outstanding supporting cast that includes such screen legends as Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre. If you are looking for a steamy and well-acted spy drama/romance, you can’t do better than Casablanca
Conclusion
This is but a small list of great movies that will make for a memorable date night. They show that just because two people may have different preferences in film it does not mean they can’t enjoy a movie together. Some of the best movies are those that mix genres, so instead of settling for a standard romance or thriller, why not take a second and choose something that mixes the two and maybes throws in a few other surprises along the way?
