With Thanos’s journey undoubtedly coming to an end in Avengers 4, Marvel President Kevin Feige has confirmed that there are already plans for Galactus in the MCU. Galactus has recently been acquired with the rest of Marvel’s Fox properties, and it is exciting to think about such a powerful cosmic entity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it takes a special kind of actor to be as imposing as Galactus is, and I think I have a few options who would be perfect in the role.
Graham McTavish
Graham McTavish may seem like an odd choice to play the MCU’s most powerful villain, but I think that he has everything it takes to bring the character to life. While McTavish is most famous for playing a hobbit, he is a mountain of a man, and he has proven that he can be as intense as any actor alive. Watching McTavish play The Saint of All Killers on Preacher gives me chills, and I would love to see him bring the same kind of intensity to Galactus.
Michael Shannon
It seems like Michael Shannon has played the villain in everything, and there’s a reason for that. Shannon has reached critical acclaim with his sinister performances, portraying the main antagonist in both A Shape of Water and Man of Steel, and because of that, he has been one of the most sought-after actors of our generation. Putting Shannon’s facial structure inside Galactus’s iconic helmet would be sure to please fans everywhere, and I think that he could be even more menacing than Josh Brolin was as Thanos.
Cliff Curtis
Cliff Curtis is a veteran Hollywood actor, but it was his role in Fear the Walking Dead that made me consider him for Galactus. Before his character met his untimely end, Travis Manuwa became an unhinged killer, and I thought that his performance matched the likes of which I have ever seen. Curtis has a larger head and facial structure, which could provide an adequate template for Galactus’s body, and I think that his acting talent could make up for his slight lack of popularity.
Bruce Willis
Bruce Willis isn’t known for his acting excellence, but he is still one of the most popular and recognizable actors to have ever lived. Willis has made a bit of a career comeback in recent years, and I think that a role in the Marvel universe could be an interesting turn of events. He is an undeniably imposing figure, and I think that he could make an oddly perfect fit as Galactus.
Ron Perlman
When it comes to large, scary characters, people immediately think of Ron Perlman. He has a voice that is more imposing than anyone else’s I have ever heard, and he often towers over everyone in the room. Casting Perlman as Galactus would undoubtedly make the vast majority of people happy, and I think that he could do much better in the role than someone who hasn’t had a lot of voice acting experience.
Gerard Butler
Gerard Butler has been an action star for years, but beyond all, he has a deep, gruff voice. While he is usually the hero, I feel like Butler could fit in extremely well as a menacing villain, and Galactus could be a perfect fit. With a mixture of his voice and popularity, I think that Butler could relive the success that Josh Brolin had as Thanos.
Ed Harris
Ed Harris has long been one of the most respected villainous actors, and he has been the favorite to play Brainiac for a while. However, I think the same credentials that make Harris the favorite for Brainiac should also make him the favorite for Galactus. He is a dark, larger than life type of actor, and I think that casting him in the role could finally do justice for the character.
Mark Strong
Mark Strong has reached fame recently by playing villains, and I think that he is a perfect fit for that archetype. While he has been cast as Doctor Sivana in Shazam, I think it is about time for him to join the MCU as well. Strong is a fabulous actor who can fit into almost any role, and I think he absolutely has what it takes to play Marvel’s most powerful villain.
Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson is not only one of the most legendary actors of all time, but he has one of the most legendary voices of all time. Hearing Liam Neeson’s deep, scratchy voice radiate from the giant being that is Galactus would be an epic experience, and I think that he would be a good fit for the character all around. While he usually plays the same type of characters consistently, I think that he has what it takes to step out of his comfort zone for a huge role like this, and I would love to see such a powerful pop culture icon portray a character as coveted as Galactus.
David Harbour
David Harbour is starting to creep into mainstream status with his role as Sheriff Hopper on Stranger Things, and he is only going to get more famous once Hellboy comes out. Harbour getting cast as Hellboy made me realize just how gruff of an actor he really is, and I think that could translate into a terrifying character nicely. He has a frame and physical structure that could work perfectly for Galactus, and I would love to see how he handles a role that holds so much weight to it.
