Top 5 Actors Who Could Play Mark Antony in the New Cleopatra Movie

Director Patty Jenkins of Wonder Woman fame is set to take on another strong female character when she makes a brand new Cleopatra movie, with Gal Gadot in the title role. Gadot and Jenkins are no-brainers for the positions they have assumed for this film, making this movie a success from a production standpoint, but every Cleopatra needs a Mark Antony. There are plenty of actors who could assume the position of history’s greatest lovebird opposite Gal Gadot, but here are the five that could possibly be the best.

1. Chris Pine

Chris Pine is an obvious choice to play Cleopatra’s love interest in the new Cleopatra movie, especially with Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins already on board. While it might be somewhat derivative to see the main crew of the Wonder Woman films together again in ancient Egypt, there is no denying the perfect chemistry that exists between Pine and Gadot. He would be an excellent name to bill alongside the massive star that is Gal Gadot, and when it comes to playing Mark Antony, look for no further credentials than his portrayal of Steve Trevor.

2. Liam Hemsworth

Liam Hemsworth is a young, handsome, rising action star who could easily fit into the archetype of a heartthrob, which he could undoubtedly do as Mark Antony. It is unlikely that there will be any explosive scenes of fighting or war, but if there are, then that exponentially raises Hemsworth’s stock as Antony due to his experience with that kind of work. He ticks every box when it comes to being both a love interest and a war waging general, not to mention it never hurts to attach the last name “Hemsworth” to a project.

3. Ryan Gosling

The story of Cleopatra and Mark Antony is undoubtedly entrenched in war and politics, but above all, it is a love story. When it comes to romance and love, especially in unconventional circumstances (see La La Land), Gosling is an ace. He is one of the dreamiest men in Hollywood, and while his acting is not the most highly lauded, he is more than capable of giving an accurate portrayal of Mark Antony.

4. Kit Harington

Mark Antony is a lover, there is no doubt about that, but he is also a fighter. Being one of the most famous Roman generals in history, Antony was as fierce a warrior as any, which makes Kit Harington a perfect fit for the character. Harington showed in his dynamic Game of Thrones role that he can play a high ranking soldier who is driven by love, and he could bring the exact same intricacies to the new Cleopatra movie.

5. Jamie Dornan

When it comes to actors who are known primarily for their work in the romance genre, who is hotter right now than Jamie Dornan? The star of the 50 Shades of Gray franchise has yet to do much aside from that, but he is a certified A-list actor, and he could prove to be a staple of romantic movies. Dornan is built as though he is a Roman general, and would be incredibly believable as both a feared leader and a passionate lover.
