Aquaman: An Under The Lens Review

Under the lens takes a deep look at films by focusing in on one or two particular areas of the picture that helped to define it for better or for worse. Spoilers will be included in this review.

Aquaman is a superhero action fantasy picture directed by James Wan, and stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Defoe, and Patrick Wilson among many other well-known actors. The narrative follows Arthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, who after his murderous half brother declares war on the surface world, must go on an epic question to save his family and the world while reclaiming his birthright as King of Atlantis.

Under The Lens: Self-worth and One track shot

Self-worth: Jas a lot to say about self-worth and what it means to be “Worthy”, we see this from the perspective of both Aquaman and his brother Ocean Master. Ocean Master believes worth comes from bloodline, whereas Aquaman believes it comes from one’s loved ones and family. In the end, Arthur admits he is not worthy of the Trident, but that he loves his family and home and only seeks power in order to defend them and it from outside attacks. Arthur, in the end, does not care about wealth, power, or control, he only wants to protect the innocent from harm.

One Track Shot: Aquaman is a well-shot picture, and James Wan has one, in particular, that is just magnificent to see. Aquaman and Mera find themselves in a running battle with Black Manta and his commando, this leads to a thrilling tracking shot that sees one continuous fight between Mera, Arthur and the villains as it takes place all over the city. It’s a breathtaking sequence full of humor, action, and violence.

Highlights

The relationship between Aquaman’s father and mother was very tender and sweet, Nicole Kidman and Temuera Morrison had great chemistry.

The color and saturation in this picture were outstanding and extremely beautiful to look at. See it in 4K if you can.

Something to think about

You may not have superpowers, but what is one way you can be “Worthy” for your family?

Conclusion

Aquaman was a surprisingly heartfelt and action-packed adventure. With pulse stopping action scary creatures and an emotional core running through it, the picture stands as one of the few comic-book motion pictures that successfully balances, humor, drama, and action in a satisfying way. anchored by strong performances and outstanding visuals Aquaman will be remembered for many things but perhaps most for giving us an undersea adventure that stirred our hearts as well as thrilled us.
