As America tuned in to Sunday night’s Super Bowl 52, we were introduced to a multitude of new commercials and TV ads. From Solo to Mission Impossible to Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming film, Skyscraper, you have to admit that every fanboy (and gal) were lit up with joy after watching the Avengers: Infinity War TV spot. Granted it was only a mere 30 seconds long, it was still worth watching 3 hours of football before it finally aired.
After watching the Infinity War spot for at least a couple (hundred) times, there were shots I found interesting and is worth mentioning. Another thing that comic book movie fans do is over-analyze trailers and the films itself, and that’s what we’ll be doing here.
As always, the TV spot opens up with the Marvel Studios logo as usual (still looks awesome). Just after that, we get an amazing shot of Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange. This shot alone brought a smile to my face as I can’t wait to see Tony and Stephen Strange exchange dialogue. It’s a stretch, but if the Disney/Fox deal follows through, we may be getting an Illuminati film in the future.
The next shot, we get another sweet look at Wanda and Vision. This is part of the same scene in the first Infinity War trailer where we see the two. Here, it looks like she’s the one that’s causing Vision to appear in human form.
Finally, another shot of the Guardians! It’s pretty obvious that Thor is inside the Milano where he will finally reunite with Tony since the events of Age of Ultron. This is where I believe that the Guardians will catch Tony up to speed on how they find Thor and how Thanos wiped out Thor’s ship and the rest of the crew. My speculation is that Thor will also tell Tony how Loki presumably helped Thanos by giving him the Tesseract, reminding Tony about the horror that Loki brought to New York in the events of the first Avengers film.
In this shot, it sounds like Tony is telling Bruce that, “It’s all been leading to this.” As with Thor, Bruce has also been MIA since Age of Ultron and I believe they share a little heart-to-heart where Bruce tells Tony a little bit of what he’s been through. At this point, it looks like crap is going on outside of the Sanctorum where Tony may be telling Bruce and the crew to basically suit up. I tend to think this happens earlier on in the film, but it’s all just speculation.
Here, we get another cool shot of Thor along with Rocket and teenage Groot. This is more than likely shortly after Thor ends up with the Guardians after they found him in space. My guess is he’s catching Rocket up to speed while also telling him they need to get Thor to earth.
Holy crap. I think this will be a chilling scene because it seems that this is part of the same scene where we see Loki hand someone the Tesseract (presumably Thanos). Despite Loki being the god of mischief and always thinking of unique ways of betraying people, I’d have to say that I feel sorry for him because literally, the rest of his Asgardian family just been wiped out as we seen in the first teaser. If it is Thanos, I don’t think we’ll see him in this scene – at least not entirely. I think we’ll get Thanos in his full glory later on in the movie when things are about to go down.
As an action set piece, I think this will be one of the coolest moments while watching Infinity War. It’s pretty cool to note that Peter is wearing his costume from Civil War and Homecoming. Of course, I think this is just after his Spidey-Sense kicks in while he’s on the bus in the first trailer. This may also be when we see him get the famous “Iron Spider” costume seen at the end of Homecoming which will surely have the theatre exploding with an applause.
Back at the New Avengers tower, one of the things I noticed is that if you look close, it looks like Vision doesn’t have the mind stone in his forehead anymore. He also has his arm over his stomach as if he is in pain or just getting weak in general. This may happen in the second act of the film where Captain America and Black Widow save Vision from the Black Order.
In this shot, I think he’s talking to the Guardians when he asks if they’re ready. In the first teaser, we got Thor on one of the circular mechanical devices as it looks like he may be trying to disable it. Maybe we’ll get a new Mjolnir? Here’s for hoping.
In the next two epic shots, we get Captain America with T’Challa as he’s trying out his new Wakandan shield! He tells T’Challa, “Let’s go.” and I believe this is just before the slow-motion running scene we get with most of the Avengers. My guess is that this happens just before the Black Order shows up in Wakanda for a third act showdown for Infinity War.
It looks like comic book fans may be finally getting Iron Man’s Bleeding Edge armor! This was teased in Civil War where Tony attempts to stop Bucky from escaping and faces him in hand-to-hand combat as he folds his suit over his hand to deflect Bucky’s bullet. This may be one of those epic shots in the film just after they all walk out of the Sanctorum and suit up.
Here we get a quick glimpse of teenage Groot as he may be considering that he’s about to go on a potentially lethal mission where he and the rest of the Guardians help Thor with the mechanical device.
Becoming one of my favorite females in the MCU, we get this shot of Nebula as she may be ready to face off against her dad, Thanos. We saw at the end of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 that she sees Gamora’s side on things and becomes part of the team. From the look of the background behind Thanos in the first teaser, this may very well be in the same fighting sequence which I think takes place the same time Captain America and the rest of the crew are fighting off the Black Order on Wakanda.
Here, we see Black Widow as she’s about to face-off with the Black Order on Wakanda presumably looking at Bruce. I’ve always thought that Captain America and/or Iron Man will die in this film, but I think it may also be Natasha. She’s obviously the MCU’s best female character and one thing to grab our attention and to surely catch us off guard is by killing her in this sequence.
Leading up to the final shot at the end of the teaser, we get a fierce Bucky as he’s running into battle with a new Wakandan Vibranium arm! This may come right before the shot of Captain and the rest of the team as they’re running into battle at the end of the first Infinity War teaser. I have reason to believe we’ll see him getting this new armor or maybe teasing it in the upcoming Black Panther post-credit scene.
Every time I look at this shot, it makes me even more pumped up for the film. There’s nothing more awesome than superheroes teaming up with one another to take down a supervillain. No words can describe how epic this shot really is.
Our second to the last shot is the same we got at the end of the first teaser. The only thing that can top this shot is when literally all of our Marvel heroes are in the same sequence taking on Thanos. As I mentioned about Natasha earlier, I believe this is the tea, running out of the wood line to take on the Black Order.
To end the epic 30-second trailer, we get another glimpse of our big bad: Thanos. We’ve reached a time where we’ve reached the uncanny valley in visual effects; especially for Marvel Studios. Say what you want about Thanos’ color changing throughout the previous films, but you can’t deny how awesome, yet sinister he looks. Can May 4th get here already!
