When the Batphone Rings: 10 Actresses Who Could Play Batgirl in the DCEU

Visionary director Joss Whedon has been tapped to direct a solo Batgirl movie in the DCEU, obviously meaning that the character will be joining the universe. Having her own solo movie, Barbara Gordon will need an actress suited for carrying an entire film as the star, yet someone who is young enough to play the part. Such an actress is difficult to find in Hollywood today, however there are a talented few who can fulfill the requirements of the role, and I think I know just who they are.

1. Emma StoneImage result for emma stone

The fact of the matter is, no Batgirl fancast is complete without Emma Stone. She has been sought after for this role by fans since before there were even talks of putting Batgirl in another movie, and she really is the perfect choice for the character. She has shown that she can play tough, strong and independent characters throughout many roles in her career, and everyone else will simply be playing second fiddle to her.

2. Britt RobertsonImage result for britt robertson

Britt Robertson is an amazing young talent, having done such projects as Under the Dome and Tomorrowland, and could potentially turn into a next generation action star. She has shown the built in emotional compass that Barbara Gordon possesses in other film projects, and has given audiences just an inkling of the immense star she could become. If given the chance to helm this film, I could not see Robertson giving any less than a critically acclaimed performance, and could continue the trend of the badass women being the real stars of the DCEU.

3. Karen GillanImage result for karen gillan

While Karen Gillan is, to quote the 11th Doctor, impossibly Scottish, she has done an American accent before, and has the look perfectly suited for Barbara Gordon. She is an accomplished action star, having been in Guardians of the Galaxy as Nebula, and has proven that she can be stupendous in a superhero role. Between her ability to act alongside the best actors in Hollywood and her resemblance to the character at hand, who wouldn’t want Karen Gillan as Batgirl?

4. Sophie TurnerImage result for sophie turner

Now considered a veteran superhero actresses after doing a phenomenal job as Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, Sophie Turner would only further her success as Batgirl. She has the perfect look for Barbara Gordon’s rendition of the character, and proved that she can handle her fair share of action throughout her career. If given the chance to helm this film, she would undoubtedly be a huge success in the role, and has the potential to be the new favorite choice for the character.

5. Chloë Grace MoretzImage result for chloe grace moretz

After playing Hit-Girl in the hilarious superhero comedy Kick-Ass, there’s not a soul on this planet who wouldn’t want Moretz as Batgirl. She practically spoofed a darker and more violent version of the character, and left fans everywhere wanting more. Obviously one of the more popular candidates for this signature sidekick, putting her in another superhero costume is a long time coming, and something that everyone wants to see.

6. Saoirse Ronan

A critically acclaimed breakout star, Saoirse Ronan made a huge buzz with her Oscar nominated film Brooklyn in 2015, and put herself on the map of directors everywhere. Now having millions of eyes on her future performances, this would work greatly in favor of the Batgirl movie, and prove Ronan’s range as an actress. I believe that she has the look for the character, and if she can nail this part like she has done many times before, then she could turn out to be a critically acclaimed action star as well.

7. Molly Quinn Image result for molly quinn

Molly Quinn is an actress that has been on the minds of many Castle fans after the show met its untimely end, and hasn’t really found her place in Hollywood since her starring role in the series. Joss Whedon is said to be looking for a more small time actress for this movie, and Quinn could fill that request. While she is not a veteran actress, Molly Quinn isn’t a no name either, and could bring the spunk and charisma that is needed to perform as Barbara Gordon.

8. Chelsea TalmadgeImage result for chelsea talmadge

You may recognize Talmadge from the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, where she doesn’t quite play the Batgirl type of character. However, she is a young actress with a lot of potential, and is the type of girl that Whedon is looking for to a tee. If she were to be given the chance to star in her first Hollywood blockbuster, I’m certain that she would rise to the occasion and become the Batgirl that we all want to see.

9. Emily BrowningImage result for emily browning

Emily Browning has done a bit of this and a bit of that, but she really stood out in her starring role in the film Sucker Punch. She has proved that she has more than enough acting prowess to star in a high profile action movie, and looks the part of Barbara Gordon perfectly. She has everything that someone could want from the female Caped Crusader, and could give the role the justice it deserves.

10. Bella ThorneImage result for bella thorne

While Bella Thorne hasn’t really done a role that left a significant mark on viewers, she is still a popular young actress, and has the red hair and pretty face that matches the likes of Batgirl. She is a name that is familiar with younger audiences, yet she hasn’t been exposed to major motion pictures as of yet. Thorne is a popular choice for the role, and could give any other competition a run for their money.

What do you think? Who should play Batgirl? Let me know in the comments!
