Disney [Finally] Officially Announces That Mulan Is In Production

After nearly two years of finding the right actress to portray Fa Mulan and getting the film off the ground, Dinsey has officially announced that the live-action Mulan is in production. The film was initially set to have a winter 2018 release but was later due to the year-long search for the titular character. In 2016, most of the people excited for this film was worried that Disney would potentially “whitewash” the role. It’s safe to say that Disney has, in fact, found Chinese actress Liu Yifei to portray the lead role.

What Are The General Reactions Regarding Liu Yifei?

It appears that many people are still on board with the first look of Mulan. According to Twitter, people just can’t seem to wait until its release. The reactions are very positive and one of the reasons for this is because it’s another Disney live-action remake. Most of the previous live-action remakes have gained overwhelmingly positive reviews and reactions. Plus, with the excitement of Jon Favreau’s Lion King being release next year, it should surely build the hype even more.

Without seeing any type of footage, it’s too early to tell whether Mulan will live up to expectations or not, however that shouldn’t stop anyone from being excited about the film. The 1998 animated version is arguably one of the most beautiful and inspiring films to come out at that time, therefore Disney may translate some of that to the remake.

Some of the actors joining Liu Yifei are Jet Li, Donnie Yen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), and Jason Scott Lee, and will be helmed by Niki Caro, who’s known for directing The Zookeeper’s Wife (2017), Whale Rider (2002), and McFarland, USA (2015).
