Some authors talk about fighting the good fight in their writing. Greg Kelso had has lived and put it in his own unique way into words. I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Kelso and to learn more about the man and his work.
Reading prior information about you I saw that you’re a longtime player of the Dungeons & Dragons game, have any of the campaigns you been in fueled your novels or vice versa?
One thing I have not incorporated is any campaigns I have run or been a part of into Alonica. I feel those games have been created specifically for those people and players and it is their escape. I want them to keep that with them.
I understand that you’re a stage four cancer survivor and that your work has helped you battle through that, how did that process work for you?
One thing writing does is give me the strength and courage to continue the good fight. The imagination is a powerful tool and helps me strive to continue and to see my characters progress in their stories as I have done in battling the elements of this disease.
Is Comicpalooza the biggest con you have participated in or have you had tables at other larger stage shows?
As for now, Comicpalooza is the largest event I have attended. Next year may be different though, I have had several messages from people asking me to attend Dragon Con in Atlanta, GA. Something I am considering for 2020, considering my story is about dragons and their children/heirs, I think I would consider it my biggest event to attend when I do.
I know that you have also participated in smaller conventions as well is there a particular type of show that works better for you for interacting with your fans?
I have participated in Dragon Lairs Con, Eastern Rim, and Traders Village Comic-Con, each has been superb in its own way. The interaction is wonderful, with all the fans at each event. One thing I try very hard to do is address everyone at my table, even when I have a small group around me. I want them all to feel a part of the conversation and not ignored.
Different authors have different goals in writing their novels, are you content with just having your words on pages or do you want to eventually get into multimedia works based on your novels?
My goal is just to have the story available for people to read. One thing I will be working on in the middle of May is going over auditions for my book to become audio. As for it becoming big, in a multimedia aspect, it would be wonderful to see happen, but I think just having the story out is a thrill in itself.
Mr. Kelso will be a literature guest at Comicpalooza in Houston TX, May 10th-12th. For more information click the link here.
