An Epic Run: Why We Love The Flash On Film

From more than 50 years how fans have been enthralled with adventures of the fleet-footed superhero known as The Flash. Barry Allen has been a unique character for fans to follow, this is mostly to how creators have structured Mr. Allen’s personality over the years. A unique dichotomy of ordinary guy mixed with highly powerful superhuman abilities, this is what brings Flash fans back to his stories again and again.

Since the flash is probably better known through his TV appearances than his comics we’re going to look at a few of the on-screen portrayals of the Scarlet Speedster.

For kids as a member of the Super Friends introduced in the original Run in the early 70s and then again brought into the team for the period known as the challenge of the SuperFriends, The Flash is high-speed abilities sometimes can be quite different from those of his cot book appearances. However, this depiction of The Flash was one of the first ones shown to a large audience.

The next incarnation of the small screen flash was in the TV season of 1990 after the success of the 1989 Batman movie, The Flash would week the TV series on CBS. Starring John Wesley Shipp as our main character, ship betrayed both sides of the Flash with humor, zest, and a great love of the character they shine through him for the run of the series until its demise in 1991.

In 2014 on the CW Network a new Flash TV series debuted spun off from its proceeding TV series Arrow and where Grant Gustin played genius let’s slow moving and slightly bumbling crime scene technician Barry Allen, his appearance on Arrow foreshadowed the upcoming series by the classic scene of Barry getting struck by lightning and doused by chemicals from his lab.

Grant Gustin’s  Flash has gone from new hero learning his place to a to a kind, sometimes over self-sacrificing, hero for all. Becoming the leader of a group of scientists and other metahuman heroes, Grant Gustin’s version of The Flash has become became a fan favorite over the years.

And finally, the latest version of  Flash jumped from the small screen and came to the Silver Screen. In the 2017 release of the Justice League, Ezra Miller became the Scarlet Speedster. Mr. Miller’s interpretation of the flash was a lot closer to the early Silver age depiction of Barry Allen in Justice League, in which his ordinary guy personality is freaked out somewhat by the fact he’s teaming up with different super-powered individuals.

Although this version is slightly more goofy and geeky person,  Ezra Miller’s portrayal of The Flash , is combined with hints of Innocence and is amazed he is included in something bigger than himself. Although some fans found this version embarrassing , those who love the The Flash thought Miller’s version was such a bright point and the Justice League film.

Despite all different depictions in celluloid for the man who rides the lightning, it’s not  hard to see why people love on-screen Barry Allen so much and are always ready to run the race with him.
