Under the lens takes a deep look at films by focusing in on one or two particular areas of the picture that helped to define it for better or for worse.

Falling for Christmas is a 2022 Christmas romantic comedy released by Netflix, directed by Janeen Damian, it stars Lindsay Lohan and Cord Overstreet. The plot is set in the days leading up to Christmas, a young and newly engaged heiress experiences a skiing accident. After being diagnosed with amnesia, she finds herself in the care of the handsome lodge owner and his daughter.

UNDER THE LENS: REDEMPTION

Redemption: Why do we watch Christmas movies? Why every year do we gather with friends and loved ones to see people fall in love and rebuild their lives over and over again in dozens of Holiday themed films? Well, I like to think that it’s because of what Christmas represents, is the end of old things and the start of new ones. We may have had a rough year, but Christmas tells us that just maybe things will be better in the new year, these Christmas films all showcase that, their characters are inherently unhappy with their lives and find that happiness lies in the simplicity of life.

Falling for Christmas tackles this story as we see the main character played by Lindsay Lohan, long to do something more with her life, everyone is placating her, she is rich and can have anything she wants. Yet what she wants is to be useful and to accomplish something on her own. In the end, she finds exactly what she was looking for, not just in the arms of a lover, but in helping others accomplish their dreams.

QUOTABLE QUOTE

Tad Fairchild: Do you mind if I post about this on my page? My followers will love it. Nothing like a breakup to really add to your numbers.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Have you ever felt pressured by your family into a career or job that you really did not want? How did you handle it?

CONCLUSION

Falling for Christmas is very obviously Netflix’s attempt at trying to get in on the popularity of the yearly Hallmark Christmas movie releases. Full of classic romantic comedy troupes, it never the less brings its own identity, as well as a good performance by Lindsay Lohan. The cast all mix well and at its heart, we get a sweet story of flawed people just trying to make it in this world, it’s nice to see Lindsey Lohan back leading films, as she has an inexplicable quality that makes her likable on that silver screen. Falling for Christmas won’t win any awards nor will the majority of critics enjoy it, however, if you like escaping to a winter wonderland for 90 mins, Falling for Christmas will give you that fun and relaxing trip you are hoping for it to deliver.
