Put a Ring on It: Fancasting HBO Max’s Green Lantern Corps Series

The hype behind HBO Max’s superhero projects has reached an all-time high, partly thanks to the bombshell news of their exclusive Green Lantern Corps series. While some of the key Green Lanterns- such as Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Kyle Rayner- will be excluded, there are set to be several exciting first appearances in what will undoubtedly be HBO Max’s first major success. With many popular Green Lantern characters confirmed to star in the show, it is expected that there might be an A-list cast to match, so here are a few actors who could fill each role.

Guy Gardner: Sean William Scott

The pompous, hot headed nature of Guy Gardner has made him one of the least popular Green Lanterns, but he is still likely going to be the star of the show as one of the most established characters. Being used mostly for comedic relief, Gardner should be played by an actor with a comedy background, making Sean William Scott a perfect option. Scott is most well known for his time in the American Pie franchise, but has since shifted to the action comedy genre, which when paired with his likeness to Gardner makes him the overall best choice for a Green Lantern Corps series.

Alan Scott: Neil Patrick Harris

The OG (Original Green) Lantern is of course Alan Scott, and he will thankfully be one of the main characters in this series, perhaps taking the place of a mentor role. Being an openly gay superhero will undoubtedly make him popular in the LGBTQ+ community, but this also means that an openly gay actor should play him, and no one is better than Neil Patrick Harris. With his signature blonde hair, extreme acting range, and undeniable charm, Harris could certainly steal the show with his casting in the upcoming Green Lantern Corps series.

Jessica Cruz: Diane Guerrero

Jessica Cruz is one of the newer Green Lanterns to become a member of the Justice League, but has made her mark on comics by giving Mexican-American women a hero to look up to. The only actress that could possibly do Cruz justice is Diane Guerrero, who has experience playing a superhero, looks exactly like Jessica Cruz, and has even voiced the character in the past, could she play the role again in the Green Lantern Corps series.

Simon Baz: Rahul Kohli

Due to the lack of genuine Lebanese and Muslim actors in Hollywood, chances are that the casting directors will try to find an unknown to play Simon Baz. However, there is no possible way for us to know who that unknown is, so Rahul Kohli gets a suggestion here. He is a phenomenal actor who could undoubtedly bulk-up enough to play the muscle bound Baz, and if an established actor is given the role, then Kohli is likely the best option.

Sinestro: Rupert Friend

When it comes to Green Lantern villains, Sinestro is the most popular and sinister, which is why the idea of him joining this series as the lead antagonist is so exciting. Mark Strong made a fantastic Sinestro in 2011’s Green Lantern, but Rupert Friend looks exactly like the comic book rendition, while also having a wealth of experience stepping into evil roles. Friend is the perfect caliber of actor to portray Sinestro on television, and would undoubtedly be able to go toe-to-toe with any of the actors portraying the Green Lantern Corps.

Kilowog: Brad Garrett

Michael Clarke Duncan’s iconic voice may always and forever be associated with Kilowog, as he brought the character to life in his big screen debut, but there are plenty of recognizable, deep voices that could breathe life into the beloved humanoid pig-man. While Kilowog is usually overly serious, he does have a sense of dark sarcasm, which would make Brad Garrett and excellent choice. He could bring his comedic timing and booming voice to the recording studio, and even provide some motion capture in order to make the character completely his.
