Girl of Steel: 10 Actresses Who Could Play Supergirl in the DCEU

The latest DC superhero rumored to be getting their own movie is Supergirl, and this comes as a surprise to absolutely no one. With the Supergirl series doing so well on the CW, and Zack Snyder hinting at her presence in Man of Steel, it was only a matter of time before we got to see her on the big screen. However, it still takes a special young woman to bring such a powerful character to life, and I think I know a few people who could live up to the performance that Melissa Benoist gives every week.

1. Britt RobertsonImage result for britt robertson

Britt Robertson has broken into the mainstream in recent years, having starred in the box office hit Tomorrowland. Despite being such a young actress, she has displayed a wide array of acting range, and has actually shown an evolution from an innocent little girl to a strong women on Under the Dome. Not only does she have the acting credentials for the role, but she has the exact look for the character as well, and I think it is very likely for her name to come up in casting discussions.

2. Chloë Grace MoretzImage result for chloe grace moretz

Chloë Grace Moretz has long been one of the most promising young actresses in the world, and is already a seasoned action star at her age. The one role for which I keep hearing people suggest Moretz is Supergirl. It seems as though almost every fan wants to see this happen, and with the a movie finally being made, I think that it is highly likely for Moretz to get to portray the character.

3. Shailene WoodleyImage result for shailene woodley

Shailene Woodley seemed to be the next big thing when the Divergent movies first came out, but she has since left the limelight a bit. However, I think she is still a perfect fit for Supergirl.

She has the perfect look for the character, and I could see her preaching her ironclad morals to potential evil doers. Whether or not Woodley gets cast, she is an obvious contender for the role, and I could see her as an early frontrunner to bring Kara Zor-El to life.

4. Emma RobertsImage result for emma roberts

Emma Roberts has been a huge television star for years now, and I think it’s time for her to finally land a lucrative motion picture. We live in a time where playing a superhero is the hallmark of most people’s careers, so getting the opportunity to play someone as popular as Supergirl should be enough to make Roberts want to join the DCEU. She has the perfect frame for the character, and seeing someone so recognizable play Kara Danvers should draw a huge crowd to the box office.

5. Eliza TaylorImage result for eliza taylor

Eliza Taylor is known by many fans for her work on The 100, but at the moment she is primarily a television star. However, it seems that almost every great superhero actor first started as a relative unknown. Taylor has the look for Supergirl, and if she can really wow the casting directors, then I think that she would make an excellent addition to the DCEU.

6. Emily VanCampImage result for emily vancamp

Emily VanCamp has been a minor character in the MCU as Sharon Carter, but she could have a more elevated position in the DCEU. DC just isn’t as developed as Marvel is, so casting an actress that is not necessarily a star is natural for the company. VanCamp has shown a variety of acting prowess in her career, and I would love to see her finally land a role with as much potential as Supergirl.

7. Lily JamesImage result for lily james

At only 29 years old, it seems that Lily James is already a veteran actress. She has done everything from starring in Cinderella, to appearing in a lead role on Downton Abbey. Above all, James has proven that she can play a wide variety of characters. If given the chance to play her first big action role, I think that she would have enough experience to make an adequate Supergirl.

8. Kathryn NewtonImage result for kathryn newton

Kathryn Newton is only 21 years old, but she has already racked up experience on high-caliber projects. Newton still has a recurring role on the long running CW show Supernatural, and recently appeared on the fan favorite show Big Little Lies as well. Casting such a young actress as Supergirl would ensure that we get many appearances from the character, and giving the part to a true unknown could create the most comic book accurate version of Kara Danvers that we have ever seen.

9. Mackenzie DavisImage result for mackenzie davis

Mackenzie Davis is an actress that every fan of nerd culture should know, and if they don’t know now, then they will. While she has already been in The Martian, Blade Runner 2049 and Black Mirror, she has been rumored to star in a Terminator reboot as well, and has proven that her stock is higher than ever. She is already in her 30s, but Davis can easily pass for much younger, and I think that she could bring a next level of acting brilliance to the Supergirl role.

10. Taissa FarmigaImage result for taissa farmiga

Taissa Farmiga was the star of a couple of the most popular seasons of American Horror Story, and has a level of popularity that comes with her last name alone. Farmiga has shown that she can acclimate herself to different types of characters very quickly, and that kind of natural acting talent just isn’t common. While she doesn’t have the exact look for Supergirl, I think that her acting expertise more than makes up for that, and I would love to see her make a blockbuster movie.

What do you think? Who should play Supergirl? Let me know in the comments!
