Iron Fist Punching To The Small Screen

Marvel Iron Fist

On March 17th, Netflix will release it’s the latest offering to it’s Marvel Comics mature themed hero line with Iron Fist. Known in comics as “The Living Weapon”, Danny Rand is a child of two worlds. Son of a billionaire industrialist, Danny was orphaned while on a trip and was taken in by the people of the extradimensional city known as K’un-L’un.

There he trained in martial and mental disciplines that gave him incredible skill and power.

With the trailer recently released by Netflix, it appears that several of the aspects of the comics will be integrated into the series. These inclusions will introduce the viewers to the rich world of the character as well as line it up with the rest of the ongoing series.

Finn Jones, who was previously best known for his character Loras Tyrell in Game of Thrones, trained heavily in kung fu, wushu, and in different physical and philosophical disciplines to better prepare for the role. The characters of Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho), a character first introduced in the first season of Daredevil, a drug lord, and strategist, she was the first connection to the Iron Fist mythology for Netflix.

Also, the character of Jeri Hogarth, portrayed by Carrie-Anne Moss, will be part of the show. This role was originally part of the Jessica Jones series, so it should be interesting how she links into Danny Rand’s life.

The Iron Fist series will also be a lead into the Defenders series also debuting this year. This series will bring together Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage into an informal team facing a greater threat. Despite Iron Fist’s background and abilities, the character should fit well into this street level team of characters. So far Netflix has taken several characters that may not be as well known as Iron Man or Captain America, but have shown to be highly capable of bringing in quality work for this generation of true believers.
