Metal Gear Solid Movie: 10 Actors Who Could Play Solid Snake

It has been reported that a Metal Gear Solid movie is currently in the works at Columbia Pictures, and has a revised script written by Derek Connolly, with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached to the project. However, there has been no cast reported for the film as of yet, despite a multitude of actors expressing interest in the lead role. The character of Solid Snake requires the perfect actor, so here are just a few that we think would be amazing as the video game legend.

1. Hugh Jackman

Whenever it was announced that a Metal Gear Solid movie was in the works, the first actor that came to a lot of minds was Hugh Jackman. Jackman was the epitome of a hardened action star for years during his tenure as Wolverine, and he has the perfect level of gruffness and chiseled body to go with Solid Snake. While he has strayed away from the action genre, there is no denying that he would be one of the best possible choices for this character.

2. Oscar Isaac

Oscar Isaac played a huge part in putting eyes on the Metal Gear Solid script by campaigning for the lead role, and it is not a bad idea to let him have it. A huge amount of fans have gotten behind the movement to let Isaac star in the film, signifying a box office draw for his rendition of Solid Snake. Isaac has played almost every type of character imaginable, including a soldier-of-fortune in Triple Frontier, making for an adequate resume for the legendary spy.

3. Gerard Butler

When it comes to the look of Solid Snake, Gerard Butler is the best choice for the role. He embodies the damaged persona of the older Solid Snake seen in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain perfectly, and with some VFX shrapnel hanging out of his face, he could essentially be the same character. Butler has a deep voice and a wealth of experience in action movies, making him one of the top candidates for the character.

4. Tom Hardy

Can every action role in the world go to Tom Hardy? Maybe not, but he could very well fill the shoes for Solid Snake. Hardy is the king of hardcore action roles, and he is always in popular demand, making his resemblance to the character simply an added bonus.

5. Ben Affleck

While he may be an outlandish choice for Solid Snake, Ben Affleck could still be a viable option. Affleck has starred in plenty of military action films, including Pearl Harbor and Triple Frontier, showing that he has the qualifications for a film such as Metal Gear Solid. He is still in impeccable shape from his time as Batman, and despite his prominent facial features, he can definitely be made to look exactly like Snake.

6. Josh Brolin

Josh Brolin is the oldest actor on this list, and he certainly looks as though he is. However, he has never been more popular than he is now coming off of his roles as Thanos and Cable, making him a viable option for Snake. While he does not exactly look the part, Brolin still embodies all of the qualities of this character, and there are far worse options to cast in the part.

7. Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal is in extremely high demand at the moment, and that is because he is one of the most ranged actors currently working. Gyllenhaal can pull off being mentally damaged, a gruff action star, or even an emotionally vulnerable lover, being able to meet the requirements of any character imaginable. He is an amazing character actor, and casting him as Solid Snake would provide for an amazing star vehicle for any blockbuster.

8. Jon Bernthal

When it comes to gritty soldier-of-fortune types, The Punisher is the first character that comes to a lot of people’s minds. While he does not really look much like the character, he has played these types of roles throughout his entire career, and would undoubtedly fit right into the mold of Solid Snake. Bernthal has amassed a level of cult fame among fans of The Walking Dead and The Punisher, while mastering the art of playing mentally damaged archetypes, making him an excellent niche actor to star in this movie.

9. Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth is the most out of the box choice on this list, but that does not make him a bad one. While he is mostly known as the cunning pretty-boy type, he has been taking more and more straight action roles, making this an opportunity that he may be inclined to take. Hemsworth is one of the most well-known actors in the world right now, and with the right hair and makeup, he could be made to look like a believable version of Solid Snake.

10. Chris Evans

Chris Evans is known to the masses as a clean-cut heartthrob from his time as Captain America, but he is also capable of performing with a darker tone. Appearing in movies such as Push and Snowpiercer, Evans is no stranger to playing characters who are gruff and serious. He can easily embody the look of Solid Snake with grown-out hair and an eyepatch, and his casting would be sure to attract the hordes of fans who loved him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
