Music And Words: An Interview With Clancy Weeks

Author and composer ,Clancy Weeks

Clancy Weeks is a Houston based author who is also an accomplished composer and music teacher. I recently had the opportunity to interview Mr. Weeks to learn a few things about this multi-talented artist. He will have an author’s table at Comicpalooza in Houston, TX.

Reading information prior to this interview I have discovered that you’re a composer as well as an author while writing a novel ever hear a soundtrack for it in your head?

I hear them all the time!  I’ve actually written a few to be used for future book trailers if I ever get around to making a trailer.  Here are links to a
a couple of mine, and one for another author:

For my novel Sleepers

For my fantasy novel Swift the River Flows

For the novel Chrysalis and Clan by Jae Mazer

Is there a favorite piece of music that inspires you with your writing?

I’m fond of Debussey’s La Mer.

Is there a particular author that inspired you to become involved in the literary world?

Not one—a whole bunch.  Asimov, Niven, King, Hawthorne, Andre Norton, Harry Harrison, Walt Whitman, Jim Butcher, Anne McCaffrey, and a ton of others.

Is Comicpalooza going to be the biggest convention you’ve had a table at, and have you visited the show before as a guest or as a fan?

Yeah, the biggest by far.  I visited two years ago for the first time, then bought a booth last year.  Did pretty well, too.

And the past few years the Greater Houston area has seen quite the uptick on cons, small press comic and fantasy publishers, and greater involvement in fantastic media. what do you think is the drive behind this?

Most likely because of the increased interest in superhero movies by the general public.  A lot of people are getting their first exposure to comic book and graphic novel characters through the movies, and that leads some to checking out the print versions.  The Big Bang Theory hasn’t hurt—it’s made the whole culture seem fun and slightly less uncool.

You can speak to Mr. Weeks and other authors, artists, and creators at Comicpalooza to be held at the George R. Brown Convention center in Houston, TX. For more info and ticket prices click on the link here.
