No, Zack Snyder Did Not Attack Geeks and Gamers

-

Please note this article is in no way supporting or defending Geeks and Gamers, nor should it be taken as agreeing with the views expressed by Geeks and Gamers. It is simply an explanation of Zack Snyder’s actions

So I wanted to talk about this controversy real quick. People are quick to jump on Zack for attacking “Geeks and Gamers”, I think the clickbait Youtube community and even some of the trades are saying he was slamming this charity drive when I don’t believe he did. I work in Public Relations and have done PR and marketing for some large companies and even worked on the marketing for a few films. Here is Zacks direct quote and then I will give my professional take on it.

I know that on our donation page, we still have the Geeks & Gamers logo. I just want to say, I really talk about this, we are really not affiliated with Geeks & Gamers as far as I am concerned. I really just want to make that clear. I also wanna just say, that in light of recent events, if Justice League teaches us anything it’s about coming together and there’s no room for hate. I just think that it’s an important message. As a father of Asian children, it really hits close to home. For me, I just want to put it out there, there’s no room for hate and that’s just what it’s about.

The statement Zack made about “Not being affiliated” with Geeks and Gamers, was a legal statement he most likely HAD to say, he was on a stream to promote people donating money. That can cause legal issues if the people donating think that he is affiliated with Geeks and Gamers. That statement was not to SLAM anyone, it was simply to clear legal red tape. Disclaimers are placed before interviews on physical media, and in front of opinion articles on Websites and Newspapers (Notice mine above this article), Zacks was just an audio disclaimer.

Zack then made a statement about how we should all come together and the JL is about unity and there is no room for hate in the world. He then mentions Asian hate crimes and how fighting that is close to his heart due to family. Everyone is saying that he was saying Geeks and Gamers was a hate group, I DO NOT believe Zack was inferring this, Zack Snyder would not support racists, he would not have gone on the live stream with them if he really thought they were hateful or noninclusive. Zack is a very affirming person and again would never agree to be interviewed by people he knew or thought were racists.

I firmly believe this was a misunderstanding and Zack Snyder made two statements, one a legal one and another a personal call for unity to watchers about a cause near and dear to his heart, Because the statements were close together they got misunderstood. Controversy makes money and sadly we are seeing people on Youtube and various websites jump on this because it gets clicks. Let’s not fall into that trap.
