Of Lightsabers and Legacies : The Jakku Temple of Texas

Let’s just say your typical idea of a day out isn’t watching movies, hitting the mall, or a drive to Galveston Beach. maybe your kind of day consists of wearing a well-made Jedi or Sith costume and swinging a lightsaber, then you may want to check out a lightsaber Guild.

At the Nerd Con in Mont Belvieu, Texas, I had the opportunity to talk to some members of the Jakku Temple, that’s named for the lightsaber training and costume in the group based out of Austin, and that’s me inside on what they do. They shared what it takes to be a member of their Troop what they do, how they train, and on what membership and building these groups mean to them. They also shared how they like the 501st, or the Houston Star Wars enthusiasts group, also work with charities while being part of the Star Wars universe.

They also made a Jedi Vs, Sith fan-film that is a fun little entry into the Star Wars Universe.

Hopefully, with forming a group currently based here in Houston, an opportunity to do some lightsaber training classes will be a reality for those fans who want more athletic participation and their fandom. You can find out more information on the Jakku temple and lightsaber guilds in general at these links here and here.
