Normally when one thinks of the East Texas-Piney Woods area of the Lone Star State, one usually thinks of ranches, fields of livestock, or large stretches of forest, not comic conventions, however, from July twenty-third to twenty-fifth Comic Conroe intends to bring an oasis of pop culture to Conroe, Texas.
This is the first ever convention put on in the city of Conroe, TX. Normally, this area has been home to Aggie Con in College Station and Fan Expo/Dallas, and the Dallas Comic Show in Dallas , TX.
Forty miles north of Houston, TX, Conroe is the seat of Montgomery County, and is one of the fastest growing cities. Between 2014 and 2015, Conroe was the sixth fastest growing city in the United States. Home to five of it’s own comic book shops, and seeing a growing arts community, Conroe is a perfect place to have it’s own comic book and pop culture convention.
The headliner for the show is the star of such well known series as Hercules and Andromeda, and the films What If.. and God’s Not Dead, Kevin Sorbo. Kevin Sorbo has been a featured guest at other fan shows in Texas, and is the perfect headliner for Comic Conroe.
And just in case, you’re not sure who Kevin Sorbo is:
Comic Conroe is also having special Mortal Kombat celebrity connected packages connected to actors Keith Cooke and Chris Casamassa, featuring Sub-Zero and Scorpion, respectively.
Other featured guests are Michael Copon of Power Rangers Time Force, voice actors Stephanie Naldony of Dragon Ball and Barry Yandell of Black Butler fame, and DC/Marvel Comics artist, Moustafa Moussa, Harley Quinn artist, Chad Hardin, and Rick and Morty artist, David Angelo Roman.
Among the artists to be at Comic Conroe is Charmy’s Army creator and artist, Davy Jones.
At a previous convention, I had the opportunity to interview Davy, and we are sharing here, to give everyone an opportunity to get to know this fan favorite artist:
Among the activities planned for Comic Conroe are: Cosplay Karaoke, the Nerd-O-Rama Trivia Grand Championship, panels and workshops, a cosplay contest, gaming, and Collectible Card Game (CCG) tournaments.
There will also be a vendor hall to find those collectibles, comics, and other items of geekery that you need for your collections.
