Passing of the Torch: Fancasting the Young Avengers

Ever since Ant-Man and the Wasp came out, there has been speculation that the MCU will eventually do a Young Avengers movie, and this has been fueled by a few hints from Marvel president Kevin Feige. This seems to be likely considering how the fate of most of the Marvel universe is currently uncertain, and with some of the original Avengers being out of contract. Whether or not the film does happen, it’s fun to speculate who could make up the Young Avengers roster, and I think I have a few candidates who are likely to appear in the movie.

Iron Lad: Asa Butterfieldhttps://www.photojoiner.net/image/mfzJoix1

It’s unclear what version of Iron Lad would be used in a potential Young Avengers film, but if it were to be Nathaniel Richards, then I couldn’t think of a better actor for the role other than Asa Butterfield. You may remember Butterfield from the iconic film Ender’s Game, and from being the favorite to play the MCU’s Spider-Man before Tom Holland snagged the role. I can’t count the number of times an actor was considered for one role until being cast as another MCU character, and with Butterfield’s incredible acting pedigree and uncanny resemblance to the character, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to land the role of Iron Lad.

Hulkling: Ansel Elgorthttps://www.photojoiner.net/image/DRGU6fqW

Ansel Elgort is one of the most successful young stars in Hollywood, so a Young Avengers movie wouldn’t be complete without him. Hulkling is one of the fan favorite characters of this team, so he’s likely to have a big role in the movie, meaning that Elgort wouldn’t necessarily be too famous to co-star in this particular ensemble film. As far as his resemblance to the character goes, Elgort is as close as you can get, and he would undoubtedly get the role if he decided to dye his hair to match Hulkling’s iconic blonde mane.

Wiccan: Ryan Potterhttps://www.photojoiner.net/image/OuwfMYXx

You may be more familiar with Ryan Potter’s voice as opposed to his face considering how his most famous role to date is as Hiro in Big Hero 6, but Potter is becoming known for his live-action roles more and more. Just recently landing a role as Beast Boy in the upcoming DC Universe show Titans, it would seem that Potter is already a staple of the superhero genre, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Marvel offered him another role. When it comes to his ability to act in the role, I believe he has a much better range than people give him credit for, and he looks surprisingly a lot like the character.

Hawkeye: Anya Taylor-Joyhttps://www.photojoiner.net/image/XISnRhUB

Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the fastest rising female stars in Hollywood, and after her role in Split, I’m fairly confident that she could get a part in almost any movie she wanted. While she’s already signed on to play a Marvel role in the upcoming New Mutants movie, that shouldn’t interfere too much with taking another considering how the universes are separated, and she’s a sought after enough actress to be given two roles for the same company. Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye has been a fan favorite character since her introduction, and I couldn’t picture any actress playing her better than Taylor-Joy.

Stature: Elle Fanninghttps://www.photojoiner.net/image/RxZ4b00O

While Stature has been set up by Cassie Lang expressing interest in being a superhero in Ant-Man and the Wasp, it’s highly unlikely that Abby Ryder Fortson (the current actress in the role) will reprise the character for a Young Avengers movie, so recasting her is a must. Elle Fanning is an actress who has already reached immense amounts of fame despite her young age, and she has been widely regarded as a future A-list star. She has an incredible likeness to the character, and I feel that she could perfectly balance Stature’s innocence and intensity.

Speed: Callan McAuliffehttps://www.photojoiner.net/image/lVMu2lMX

You may know Callan McAuliffe from a few little projects such as The Great Gatsby and The Walking Dead, and he’s a breakout star just waiting to happen. Marvel is known for taking virtually unknown actor and turning them into stars, so I wouldn’t be surprised if McAuliffe is the next person they go after. As far as his performance as the character goes, he has already shown an incredible range throughout his career, and I feel like he could be made up to look just like Speed.

Miss America: Makenzie Vegahttps://www.photojoiner.net/image/z84JnuFU

Makenzie Vega has been acting since she was a child, yet she still hasn’t had that one breakout role to put her in the limelight. A character like Miss America, who will undoubtedly be featured heavily as one of the key members of the Young Avengers, could be just what Vega needs to prove herself as one of the Hollywood elite. I feel like she has enough acting experience to handle anything the role has to offer, and I think she can pull off the feisty nature of who many see as the leader of the team.

What do you think? Who should play the Young Avengers? Let me know in the comments!
