Peacemaker Episode 6 Murn After Reading Spoiler Review

If the previous episode may be considered an homage to a fellow Professional Wrestler’s movie ‘They Live’ (For those who don’t recall, John Carpenter’s ‘They Live’ premise had “Rowdy” Roddy Piper going after aliens disguised as humans taking over the population systemically) this one feels closer to ‘Invasion Of The Body Snatchers with some ‘The Fugitive’ type of escaping. Although I think Harrison Ford wishes he had an Eagle & an Assassin with Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl as a ring tone help take out several cops.

Peacemaker Episode 6, this episode….this episode man…I really don’t know how they can balance out some of the most darkest moments of anything DC has ever done with some of the funniest things DC has ever done. Yeah for all the Hardcore DC fan Gatekeepers who constantly knock Zack Snyder for creating the stigma that “DC is dark” and you loved this episode I don’t know what to tell you nor do I know what to tell the Snyder Gatekeepers rooting against anything DC does without his involvement. As a DC fan & a fan of most of Snyder’s work, I enjoyed it because it had both things those fans are looking for.

Granted, I know I’m 6 episodes in & I am starting to realize they do heavily rely on the F-bomb. Like…they use it excessively. I don’t even think Robotman from Doom Patrol uses the word as much. I suppose when you want to take advantage of a TV-MA rating you take what you can get.

To my surprise, this episode probably features the least amount of jokes. It’s easy to assume they are reaching a culmination for the final two episodes. The cops finally figure out Auggie Smith is innocent & have an arrest warrant for Peacemaker. Meanwhile, Adebayo is not only completely fine, but it appears Harcourt & Economonos knew Murn was a Butterfly the whole time, although Economonos literally covers his ears with his fingers not wanting to acknowledge it.

There’s alot to unpack here. Goff, the Butterfly Smith kept since Episode 3, escapes & takes possession of Detective Song’s Body while attempting to arrest Peacemaker at his home. Meanwhile, Auggie plans to kill his son as his followers put on what looks to be Klan hoods but with Cat ears (No this isn’t being fabricated) as he suits up his White Dragon gear ready to go after his boy.

I have to admire the character development of Christopher Smith in this episode. Even Adrian/Vigilante seems to be disappointed in Smith’s revelation. This transformation goes even further later on when Peacemaker tells Harcourt he doesn’t want to kill anymore.

I’ll be the first to admit I was skeptical about how I would feel about a Peacemaker show since killing Rick Flagg in The Suicide Squad raised many questions as to whether or not it would work. I thought maybe it was a prequel series but the film’s post credit scene said otherwise. To Gunn’s credit he pleasantly surprised me & proved me wrong as killing Flagg was a set up for Peacemaker’s journey into pacifism. From when he killed his brother as a child to seeing a chief officer killing his own men, there is undoubtedly an Arc here.

The films I mention earlier (They Live, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, & The Fugitive) have one significant thing in common: Lack Of Trust. Those themes are present in this show & can be an effective tool to highlight some great writing. Trust in one’s self can also have trivial moralities. Adebayo has to decide if being on this team is worth it especially when most of the team knows a secret not even her mother can know about.

We’re only 2 episodes away, folks. This episode set up so much for a finale. Apparently several journalists got to see The first 7 episodes early. Very few have seen the season finale. The suspense has me on the tip of my toes.
