Alien: Covenant is the highly anticipated 6th installment of the horrifying Alien series. First created by famed director Ridley Scott the franchise was a benchmark of science fiction and created the subgenre of sci-fi horror. Scott returned to the alien world he created in 1979 with the prequel film Prometheus, a story set years before Alien, the movie sought to tell the beginning of the story of how the terrifying creature known as the Xenomorph came to be. Now that Alien: Covenant is a certified hit at the box office fans have been asking for clues about the next film. When now Ridley Scott has Confirmed When Alien: Covenant Sequel Takes Place (and gave a clue about a fan favorite character)
Prometheus was a commercial success earning over 400 million worldwide and becoming the highest grossing Alien film ever. Despite this the film was criticized by fans and critics alike for being badly written and somewhat confusing, the film was praised for its groundbreaking CGI work and lush landscapes. Its been almost five years since Prometheus left fans longing for the answers to the questions presented in the film. When Scott announced, a sequel called Alien: Covenant, fans were overjoyed to finally get the answers that had eluded them.
Now that Alien: Covenant has hit theaters many Prometheus fans are not happy with the way the film handled the fate of Elizabeth Shaw the protagonist of Prometheus, with many complaining about the lack of answers to the questions of the former film many wondered if Scott had simply decided to abandon the story-lines he had set up.
During an interview with Fandango, Scott and Katherine Waterston discuss Alien: Covenant and the whereabouts of Dr. Elizabeth Shaw. Scott confirmed the title of the Alien: Covenant sequel will be Alien: Awakening, Scott was then asked what the timeline looked like would it be Prometheus, Covenant and then Awakening? before we arrive at the events of the original Alien.
Scott said
“It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant.. fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way….”
Katherine Waterston then playfully tells Scott he is giving away to much, and Scott stops himself. With the next film in the Alien series taking place after Prometheus but before Covenant, it seems to say that Scott is in fact intending to revisit the events of the 10 years that take place before the crew of the Covenant discover David and his hellish world. The short video The Crossing that hit the web shortly before Alien: Covenant was released, showed how David was repaired and also indicates that David discovered dark secrets about the Engineers aboard the hijacked ship. Alien: Awakening may end up showing us what discoveries compelled David to slaughter the Engineers and also what lead him to turn on Elizabeth Shaw whom he had previously viewed as pure and good. It could also answer the question did David and Shaw visit other distant worlds before landing on Paradise?
