Today J.J Abrams announced that The Rise Of Skywalker Directors Cut would be coming to Disney Plus this summer. Long rumored but never confirmed many who watched the theatrical cut of the film felt like there were whole portions of the film that had been edited down to shorten the length of the picture.
In a press release J.J Abrams was quoted as saying
“I am thrilled that Disney Plus and Bob Chapek are allowing me to bring my original vision of “The Rise of Skywalker” to Disney Plus, this director’s cut of the film will include never before seen footage, and a removed plotline regarding the return of Emperor Palpatine. Overall while I am proud of the theatrical cut of the movie, but I am excited for fans to see the extended edition!”
In another quote Disney CEO Bob Chapek had this to say
“J.J’s Rise Of Skywalker Directors Cut will truly be a love letter to the fans, with a runtime of just over three hours and lots of deleted scene I can’t wait for people to meet and re fall in love with Rey, Finn and Poe all over again”
While this announcement comes as a bit of a surprise, Warner Media just saw the release of Zack Snyders Justice League, a four-hour-long alternate film to the theatrical that has seen huge success for ATT.
While the Rise Of Skywalker Directors Cut is not expected to be nearly as different as Zack Snyders Justice League was to the theatrical, the addition of 30 mins of addition scenes and a subplot involving the Emperors return, will go a long way to smoothing over the negitive reactions many had to the theatrical cut.
We will UPDATE this story as we learn more.
