As many fans expected, the “Star Wars” celebration happening in Orlando this weekend has resulted in the release of the first teaser trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and it is awesome!

What do we know about ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’?

We can see a lot from this first trailer, without actually knowing too much about the film. For instance, it appears that “The Last Jedi” will pick up almost exactly where “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” left off. Rey is training on the island with Luke, and Finn is still badly injured. The Resistance is in retreat from the oncoming force of the First Order. After the events of “The Force Awakens” it appears like the First Order are in full seek and destroy mode against their rebel enemies.

Who’s new to the Star Wars franchise?

The two major new characters to the franchise this time out are Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro. Del Toro is set to be a new villain, probably on the side of the First Order. While Dern will play a general in the Resistance. She looks set to come into conflict with Poe Dameron over leadership roles once Leia is injured. We are expecting to see her wounded in the first act of “The Last Jedi”.

Aside from that, we know very little about the film so far, only that it will continue the “Star Wars” motto of having a darker middle film in the trilogy.

The shock ending!

We also saw Luke Skywalker, deciding to talk in this installment, saying that it was time for the Jedi to end. This is a major shock, and could mean any of a number of things for the “Star Wars” universe. It is possible that he is looking to finish off Kylo Ren and his Knights of Ren, who were supposed to be the next generation of Jedi. Or he could be referring to himself as “The Last Jedi” and saying it is time for him to die. He could be letting Rey continue on the order as something other than a Jedi. Or could he mean that he doesn’t think he can train Rey, and she should let the Order die with him? Whatever it is that he means, it is certainly going to be exciting finding out more!

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is set for release on December 15th, 2017. You can keep an eye out for the next trailer, expected to possibly drop next month around May 4th, known as “Star Wars” day. Follow “The Comical Theory” on Facebook and @ComicalTheory on Twitter for more!
