The Top 5 James Bond Gadget Watches To Appear In The Bond Franchise

Moonraker: Dart gun watch

Throughout the history of the many actors to be in the James Bond franchise, his gadgets have been an integral part of the character, From tricked out vehicles, to shoes that contain radios or knife blades, one can’t think about Bond without his tools. Beginning with the Roger Moore era, specialized watches were part of his arsenal, and in fact, as the longest-running Bond, he has had the most super spy watches of them all.

Before we get to the Bond Watches list here a few honorable mentions:

Sean Connery’s Thunderball Geiger counter watch: technically the first Bond spy watch, the elegant  Rolex’s simple detection tool although cool, not quite enough to merit Q branches best work.

Pierce Brosnan’s The World Is Not Enough: spear cable and reel watch: although very helpful in a daring escape by 007, this essentially a grapple gun in mini size, nifty, but not as coll as we would like

Roger Moore’s Octopussy Seiko tracking watch: Although a nifty idea, it’s not quite as dynamic as the other watches we have seen being used by the spy we love.

And now here are the top five Bond watches shown on the silver screen:

Why, it’s dart o’clock.

This handy, miss-this-weapon-in-a-pat-down, watch contained a dart launcher that when 007 flexed his wrist in a certain way fired a dart that came in cyanide-tipped and armor-piercing models. Bond used this gadget twice, once to escape a trap and once to take out the bad guy at the end of the film.

The Spy Who Loved Me: Ticker tape message watch

Hard copy messaging.

Here is one our millennial readers may not recognize. A precursor to the messaging capabilities of smartwatches today, in the old day’s messages would come in over ticker tape, so it was very high-tech back in the day to place this technology inside a watch! Bond could receive messages from headquarters almost anywhere in the word.

Live and Let Die: Magnetic field-buzz saw watch

Mini-magnet and saw blade, just the thing for awkward date escape.

This was the first super watch that came with Roger Moore’s maiden Bond outing, the magnetic feature helped out 007 several times in the film, and the surprise saw feature was used to help him escape a death trap towards the end of the movie.

Goldeneye: Laser cutter watch

Also,good for steaks.

This handy watch appeared in one of the most famous and well-loved Bond films and was used to help BInd out of a jam, was on the wrist of Pierce Brosnan in his first Bond film.  Used to cut through a steel floor of a Russian train engine (don’t ask) once again his wristwatch saved his bacon.

Spectre: Whistle bomb watch

Omega Seamaster, more like ‘splosin master.

This watch was used by the latest Bond, Daniel Craig in the 50th-anniversary film, Spectre. While being tortured at the hands of his evil step-brother in the film, Bond has this watch slipped to him by his then companion, Dr. Madeline Swann. He is then able to use it to stun the bad guys, escape the torture and begin a dynamic escape. The reason that this watch is significant, is due to the fact that for much of the Craig era films, gadgets were mostly de-emphasized.

So, there you have it, Bonds best watches, please return to Q branch in one piece.
