‘Venom 2’ Has Been Delayed (But Likely Not For The Reason You Think)

Venom: Let There Be Carnage aka Venom 2 was slated to open on September 24th, 2021, and is highly anticipated after a very well-received trailer was dropped by Sony. It was announced that the picture will now be delayed to October 15th. While many will be quick to point at the rising cases of the Delta Variant for COVID-19. I do not believe this is the reason why Venom 2 was delayed. According to the National Research Group, 67% of moviegoers say they’re “very or somewhat comfortable” visiting their local theaters, so honestly, the pandemic likely had nothing to do with it being delayed, as a month won’t make any difference to cases rising or decreasing.

The more likely reason for its delay, likely lay in that the film is a light horror movie and will play MUCH better closer to Halloween. Venom was released on October 1st, 2018, and went on to earn $855 million worldwide, and played REALLY well over the Halloween holiday. Thus one could suppose that Venom 2 would also play very well closer to October 31st, especially with the pictures serial killer/body horror theme.

So let’s not panic yet!

Plot synopsis: Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as the lethal protector Venom, one of MARVEL’s greatest and most complex characters. Directed by Andy Serkis, the film also stars Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris and Woody Harrelson, in the role of the villain Cletus Kasady/Carnage.
