5 Actors Who Could Play Black Knight in the MCU

Rumor has it that Marvel’s next project is going to be a team-up movie involving Captain Britain and Black Knight, and fans have welcomed the news with open arms. While these are two characters who have been associated with the Avengers for years, they are still not exactly popular, and Marvel could seek to change that by giving them their own feature film. There aren’t a lot of necessary qualities when it comes to casting Black Knight, so I have selected a wide array of actors that I personally think could do the role justice, and I hope you agree with my choices for Dane Whitman.

1. Gerard ButlerImage result for gerard butler

When it comes to gruff action stars, I’m not sure it gets any better than Gerard Butler. Butler obviously has a lot of experience playing warrior-type characters, portraying King Leonidas in 300, and I feel that another excursion as a hardened sword fighter could be just what his career needs right now. While he may be a better fit for Sir Percy (the original Black Knight) as opposed to Dane Whitman, it hasn’t been made clear which version of the character we’re going to see in the MCU, and I think that Marvel could make it work either way.

2. Joseph Gordon-LevittImage result for joseph gordon levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt isn’t an obvious choice for Black Knight, but I think that he could easily make a convincing Dane Whitman. Besides being one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood right now, he embodies the classic look of a strong-jawed action hero, and that’s really all you need to play this particular Marvel character. Having Gordon-Levitt join the MCU would be sure to make every fan on the planet giddy with excitement, and I know for a fact that he could use his excellent range to seamlessly bring Black Knight to life.

3. David HarbourRelated image

It may seem a little weird to suggest David Harbour for a Marvel superhero like Black Knight, but who doesn’t love Sheriff Hopper? Everyone in the world is crazy about Stranger Things, and Harbour’s success from that show has already lead to him landing the comic book hero Hellboy. I feel like he could play an older, close to retirement Dane Whitman, and I would love to see such a different take on Black Knight.

4. Jai CourtneyImage result for jai courtney

Jai Courtney is similar to Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the sense that he is a young, strong-jawed action star, yet he just doesn’t have the same kind of star power that comes with his name. However, Courtney has still proven that he is a promising action star, and I think that a role as a Marvel hero like Black Knight could be a match made in heaven. Courtney may already have a role in the DCEU, but I think that he may be more suited for a smaller MCU character, and putting him in a Marvel movie could be what takes him to the next level of stardom.

5. Alden EhrenreichImage result for alden ehrenreich

Alden Ehrenreich suddenly became one of the most popular actors in the world after being cast in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and while that film wasn’t exactly a success, he still proved that he is a capable action star. I envision Ehrenreich’s Black Knight as a younger, more green version of the hero, and casting such a fresh face could revitalize the MCU. Ehrenreich has the dashing good looks and gruff demeanor you would expect from a classic superhero, and I think that it would be interesting to see such a new star portray such an old character.

What do you think? Who should play Black Knight? Let me know in the comments!

  1. A character, maimed the Black Knight is not going to be received very well if it’s being played by a white actor. Yes, European history and all that, blah blah blah……but Marves been introducing their blaxploitation characters for a couple of years now, and they become real heroes in the MCU. White guy in that role is not going to be received very well.
