The Top 10 Keanu Reeves Movies That Define His Career

Keanu Reeves is a phenomenal actor and is becoming one of my favorite celebrities to watch. He has come along way since the notable 80’s performance in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. His boyish charm and laid back attitude have evolved into some serious performances. Keanu has definitely proved himself many times to be a fine talent . Here is a list of the Top 10 Keanu Reeves movies that define his career.

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

“Party on Bill, party on Ted”! This light-hearted comedy is perfect for slackers and teens. It doesn’t yet showcase Keanu’s diverse character range, but it does introduce us to Keanu Reeves as an actor. “Wild Stallions!” Keanu is about the flunk his history class unless he and Alex Winters receive an “A” on his project. A time machine allows them to both travels back and collects some very important historical figures. Excellent!!!

Speed

“Pop quiz hot shot!” I  love Keanu Reeves response to this scene, where he first learns about the bomb on the bus. Not only is his delivery awesome, but his dedication to saving everyone on that bus is something that can’t be faked. In addition, I  love the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. Throughout the movie, we see Keanu’s character well composed under the utmost intense pressure. After all, he and his passenger’s lives are at stake! Keanu Reeves surpasses acting expectations and plays the hero very well. Not to mention, he’s a romantic.

The Devil’s Advocate

Here we see Keanu Reeves deliver his acting chops in a more serious role. Keanu plays a lawyer who receives an offer of a lifetime until he figures out that person is really the devil in disguise. He is tempted by Al Pacino’s character several times with offerings of the flesh. It’s a supernatural thriller, but Keanu gives a very memorable performance.

Constantine

This is definitely one of Keanu Reeve’s best physical performances as detective John Constantine. It is another supernatural genre, but it is one worth watching. His body movements and use of physicality are perfect for the character he portrays. It has an introduction to occult activity, but Keanu is perfect for the role because his delivery is very noteworthy.

The Lake House

Once again, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are reunited in this loving romantic film. There is a lot of emotion coming out of Keanu’s character as he plays an architect named Alex. In the movie we see him purchasing a lake house two years apart from Sandra. A love story blossoms between these two characters. The ending seems sad at first until the very last final scene where Keanu pulls up in a green truck and kisses Sandra. Keanu does a good job in this romantic film catered to everyone, especially sensitive souls.

John Wick

Keanu Reeves went through extreme martial arts training to play the role of ex-hit man John Wick. It is kind of like a “Kill Bill” style theme played by a male lead actor. We don’t just get to see Keanu Reeves shooting people, we get to see him take revenge on the jerks that killed his puppy. Talk about an animal lover! Who could not have cried when Keanu was holding his dead puppy and cleaning up the blood. Once again, Keanu showcases his level of dedication to playing intense characters.

The Matrix

Once again, another action film showcasing  Keanu Reeves physicality and fierce performance. My favorite part of the movie was the Chateau fight scene where the bullets shot at him bounces off of his hand. It’s a very memorable scene and Keanu plays his mysterious dark character very well. There is also a lot of martial arts taking place, which I would imagine required hours, days and weeks of intense training.

Bram Strokers Dracula

Ok, NOW we get to finally witness some of Keanu’s diverse character range as he plays Jonathan Harker, who has a delightful and accurate British accent. It is a horror film so we do have Keanu Reeves getting in touch with his darker side. The character is developed really well and his accent stays consistent throughout the movie. It is a different side of the actor and it gets to showcase more of Keanu’s talent.

Sweet November

Oh this is such a cute movie. Keanu’s character falls in love with Charlize Theron and she makes him a deal to stay with him for thirty days. It is definitely a tear jerker as we learn that Keanu gives up a job offer for Charlize and then we find out she has terminal cancer. My favorite part of the movie is when he turns down the job offer and offers Charlize a bouquet of flowers. It’s so romantic and Keanu gets to play a sensitive soul.

Point Break

Surfing is now officially on the actor’s resume. Keanu plays Johnny Utah, a federal agent who meets a group of surfers. Keanu is also surfing in this film and of course, uses his physical body to perform a lot of the stunts. There are a lot of twists and turns in this movie and there is also a budding romance between Keanu and Lori Petty.  He has to be careful not to get too distracted and of course, the ending is very memorable as he finally lets Patrick Swayze surf his last wave.
