Making The Future:Houston Maker’s Faire

On October 13th and 14th at the George R Brown Convention Center, Innovation Spark will be hosting the 6th annual Houston Makers Faire. This fair is aimed at getting young people involved in engineering, science, and technology.

Various vendors and educational groups will be on hand to get kids creativity to engage with robotics, environmental Sciences, technology, and the concepts of building using raw materials and 3D printing.

 Houston makers groups have been present at events such as come palooza which also takes place in the George R Brown Convention Center, the independent show is able to focus solely on these different aspects for encouraging young people in sciences and Technology.

Some of these groups also are for the encouragement I’ll be on women and Technology such as, #FIRSTLikeAGirl , a group that gets girls involved with robotics.

3D DISTRIBUTED

3D IMAGINE

Sandra Baynes is the owner of 3D Imagine, a 3D Photogrammetry, 3D Printing and 3D Design Company based in Houston that specializes in life-like figurines.

A LONG WALK TO WATER

Students engaged in a problem based learning challenges to help people around the world provide themselves with clean water. They designed a portable water filter using CAD Design software and created prototypes using recyclable materials.

Makers:  Debbie Harris, Steve Johnson, and Shai Zacaraev

Debbie Harris is a microbiologist/chemist who left research to teach Middle School students. Harris believes in using problem-based learning to connect Science learning to the student’s real world. Mrs. Harris is a winner of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching and has won numerous grants to bring “hands-on” experiences and creative projects to the classroom.

Steve Johnson

Builder, Mechanic, Programmer, Teacher, Backpacker, Canoeist, Father

Shai Zacaraev

Shai moved to Houston last year to help create the High School at the St. Francis Episcopal School. Having completed two master’s degrees, the first in computer science and the second in education leadership. He brings a vast array of experience in creating maker-spaces as well as developing computer science curriculum.
