The title of People’s Sexiest Man Alive has been given out ceremonially in November of every year ever since its inception, and that time is almost upon us again. Last year’s winner, Idris Elba, is set to be succeeded by this year’s hottest man in pop culture, with a plethora of options being available for the title. Who will be 2019’s Sexiest Man Alive? Here are just a few options.
James McAvoy
James McAvoy has had an extremely successful career in 2019, reprising his roles in both Glass and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, as well as starring in the highly anticipated horror flick It: Chapter 2. While McAvoy has hardly been recognized as a sex symbol, he carries a dapper and charismatic demeanor that is sure to be interpreted as sexy, as well as having a toned body from his character in Glass. McAvoy is an actor that should be considered for Sexiest Man Alive every year, and if now is not his time, then it could happen in 2020.
Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake Gyllenhaal has been a household name since he was a child, but he has always been known for playing characters that are weird or mentally unstable. However, Gyllenhaal bulked himself up to play a boxer in the movie Southpaw, and ever since then, he has been a prime example of what a sex symbol should look like. Gyllenhaal had a good year in 2019 with Spider-Man: Far From Home making over $1 billion at the box office, so it would be hard to argue that he has not done enough to deserve this year’s magazine cover.
Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt has deserved the title of Sexiest Man Alive ever since he got into superhero shape for Guardians of the Galaxy, and the fact that he has not gotten yet is an utter robbery. There is nothing sexier than a man who has washboard abs and the ability to make anyone laugh with every word he says. While Pratt has not had the most active 2019, he is such a household name that he should earn the Sexiest Man issue based on merit alone, and his win would still be long overdue.
Oscar Isaac
Remember when Harrison Ford played the lovable rogue in Star Wars, and that made him the Sexiest Man Alive both for People and women/men everywhere? Well Oscar Isaac is doing the same thing as Poe Dameron for a modern generation, but it seems like no one really acknowledges how attractive he is. Isaac has managed to stay busy and produce three films this year that were all talked highly of upon their release (with Rise of Skywalker being talked highly of before its release), so with his resume so far being stacked, Oscar Isaac is likely a dead ringer for Sexiest Man Alive.
Nick Jonas
The Jonas Brothers have been well-documented as teenage heartthrobs, but now they are all grown up and married men, and it seems that no one wants to talk about how much they have matured and truly became sexy. The leader of the pack seems to be Nick, who had a stint in acting where he played an MMA fighter in Kingdom and a daring pilot in Jumanji: Return to the Jungle, as well as being married to one of the most beautiful actresses in the world (Priyanka Chopra). While no one really considers Nick Jonas to be one of the sexiest men alive, he has made the headlines several times this year with his acting, music, and most prominently his wedding, so putting him on the cover of this issue is not a farfetched idea.
Will Smith
Will Smith has had a career and reached a level of fame that very few other people can relate to, and this year he had somewhat of a comeback into mainstream culture. Between both Aladdin and Gemini Man, Smith’s body and charm has been on full display, and it is hard to argue that he does not deserve the recognition of being one of the sexiest men on the planet. Smith could have easily held this title several times before, but he has hardly skipped a beat, and could realistically still be the Sexiest Man Alive well into his 50s.
Zachary Levi
Before 2019, Zachary Levi was a C-list actor who was known for starring on the popular action sitcom Chuck and lending his voice to the Disney film Tangled, but everything changed for him this year. After being cast as the title superhero in Shazam, and getting himself into tremendous shape for the role, Levi has garnered much more success than he has ever seen. 2019 was somewhat of a breakout year for Levi where he was able to display his boyish charm and toned physique, and there is no better way to cap it off than with the cover of People magazine.
Justin Timberlake
While Justin Timberlake has managed to stay out of the limelight for most of 2019, he had an extremely successful 2018, and it looks like he is set to replicate that success again next year. However, Timberlake is such an international star and sex symbol that he can take a year off and still be one of the sexiest men to ever live. He has been making women swoon ever since his time in NSYNC, and now that he has made a name for himself as one of the most popular celebrities to ever live, he deserves the Sexiest Man Alive cover just as much as anyone else does.
Jason Momoa
People everywhere have been clambering for Jason Momoa to be granted the Sexiest Man Alive cover since his 2017 snub, and while the fans usually have very little influence on the magazine’s decision, that does not eliminate the fact that Momoa is one of the most deserving candidates. Men just are not meant to look like Jason Momoa, who looks like a comic book character ripped right off of the page. Having such an imposing stature and toned appearance should do for Momoa what it did for The Rock, and grant him the position of Sexiest Man Alive.
Richard Madden
Suggesting that Richard Madden should be granted this title a year ago would be absurd, but after his starring role in Bodyguard and performance in Rocket Man, it seems like Madden may actually be a front runner for 2019. While some fans were already familiar with Madden through Game of Thrones and Cinderella, he has just now reached a level of A-list fame, and certainly has the charm to back-up his credibility as a Sexiest Man Alive candidate. He will likely get even more popular in the coming years, having been cast in a Marvel movie, and this title has a high chance of being given to Madden sooner rather than later.
