The newly launched app Pokemon Go has been taking the world by storm since its release last week. The release caught many by surprise as Nintendo kept the details pretty hush-hush. Now that it’s out many players are reporting on their experiences, both good and bad. Without further ado, here are the best bits from the first week.
Be prepared to walk… ALOT
It might be too early to say, but Pokemon Go could be the most successful tool in the fight against obesity. The game requires a significant amount of walking to find new pokemon. Trainers also need to travel on foot, or by other means, to Pokemon Gyms where they can train. The Gyms are usually located at historic buildings and landmarks.
Not everyone is happy however
The Pokemon Go craze is sure to strain many a relationship before its over. So far we have had many trainers reporting similar game experiences. For many a simple 5 minute drive to the store has turned into a journey lasting several hours. One reason is many trainers are choosing to hoof it rather than drive their car. Also, many can’t resist the call of nearby pokemon and find themselves taking detours.
Pokemon Go the great vice
Not everyone is amused with the lovable monsters. This mother is understandably worried about her son’s late-night dedication to catching new pokemon. Studies show that video game addiction is a real phenomenon. Will we see Pokemon Go rehab centers in the future?
Police have a Pokemon PSA
Pokemon go is live in 3 countries, Australia, New Zealand, and USA. Police departments around these countries are issuing various public service announcements urging people not to play and drive. While we haven’t heard of a pokemon related crash yet, the authorities want to caution drivers about the risk.
Pokemon Go taxi service
Who would pay $30 an hour to chill in the back of a car? A lot of people apparently! Many Uber drivers have reported a surge in requests from Pokemon Go trainers. The drivers may be asked to drive around in search of elusive pokemon, or to pull over for a few minutes at training centers. This could be a great thing as it may encourage people to participate in ride shares to lower costs as well as lower their impact on the environment.
It’s great for pets as well
The AR cell phone game Pokemon Go uses your phones camera enhance your surroundings and immerse you in the game. Many people are getting out and exploring their city. This is great for the player and good for their pet as well. More dog walks around town means a healthier, happier pet.
Pokemon can show up anywhere
You should always be ready to face off against a new pokemon. They can show up in the most interesting places. like this MagiKarp who is just trying to work in a quick set at the gym.

Don’t get caught with your pants down, literally. A good trainer needs to be prepared at all times. Better catch him before he jumps!
Sometimes it takes luck
Some trainers are expressing their frustration over not finding the pokemon they want. This photo which was posted online shows anger over the lack of diversity some people are experiencing.
What happens when the servers are down?
The number of users downloading and playing the game appear to be higher than any experts had predicted. Certainly higher than the Nintendo corporation had prepared for. Many people have been facing downtime and server instability this past week. Although Nintendo will undoubtedly resolve this issue in timely fashion, many walks are temporarily on hold. The $20 per share rise in Nintendo share price is a testament to the popularity of Pokemon Go.
