The Disney MCU Spider-Man and The Sony “Spiderverse” Explained

Ok so a lot of people seem to be confused about the statements made by Amy Pascal regarding Spider-Man, Venom and the Sony “Spiderverse” being apart of the MCU while not really being a part of it. Let me clarify it a bit, Tom Holland has a contract with Marvel to star in 3 Spider-Man films (with appearances in 3 more 2 of which will be Avenger films) Meanwhile Sony is filming Venom, Silver Sable/Black Cat and a few other Spider-Man related films. Now Sony had a reason for wanting to cast a young Spider-Man and Holland recently came out and said he wants to play Peter Parker for the next 20 years. So here is what Sony is planning with its “MCU Adjacent universe”

The biggest thing about this news is that Holland WILL BE SPIDER-MAN in both the Marvel films and Sony films. They will film and release a few “Spiderverse” films over the next 5 years. After Holland has filmed his MCU trilogy Sony will bring him over to the Sony “Spiderverse” Sony is using the MCU to boost Hollands Spider-Man while they build a universe to drop him into after his contract is over with Disney. This is also the most likly reason why the MCU said they had no plans to introduce Norman Osborn and the Goblin legacy into the MCU, it is being saved for the “Spiderverse” in Sony.

Sony chose Holland because he is young and wants to play the character for years, up until now we have never has a Spider-man who grew and matured over a series of films, it looks like we will finally get that. I would also not rule out Holland appearing briefly in Venom and Silver Sable/Black Cat. Sony was very smart in its deal with Marvel and is basically using the MCU as a defibrillator to jump-start the Sony “Spiderverse” with Holland as the new Spider-Man.

Many people have been busy talking about the MCU Spider-Man and what would Sony do without him, when in reality Sony allowing Marvel to use him was all about letting the MCU rebirth Peter Parker for a new Sony “Spiderverse”
