Groovy Upstarts : The New Faces Of Indie Comics

Since the nineties of the big move of artists from Marvel to create Image and Publishing his for a long time and thought of strictly in terms of primarily young white men creating superhero and costume character comic book.

However, there is a new wave of minority-operated Independent Publishers putting up books reflect everything from political satire, books and at younger readers, and new takes on the superhero genre. As technology has come better for publishing this is up in the Avenue for new independent writers and artists to have their own books put out.

Comic book and pop culture conventions have become a new Avenue for new writers and artists, especially those who are independent publishers, to Showcase their own works. At one such convention, Comicpalooza 2017, in Houston, Texas, many independent writers and artists were able to bring in and display their own work. The opportunity came to interview two small press creators, one who has just begun their journey into being an independent publisher and a veteran artist/writer/publisher who has some success, bringing his Concepts and ideas to the printed and digital page.

Fiasco is a new graphic novel written by Ben Ajayi and illustrated by Richard Simpson, We had the opportunity to speak with Mr, Ajayi, and get an insight into how he came up with his concept, and what it is like to start out n the comic book industry.

Isaiah Broussard has been active in the comics industry about seven years.  His current works include  Transyltown,  an all pages book with the scary silliness that includes peppy slayers, orange loving vampires, and were-puppies. Also, he is the writer artist for the strip Crackers and White Whine which uses layers of satire and usually has a deeper meaning than just what’s on the surface, and also the anime/manga influenced book Fight School High School, and the comedy book Help Wanted.
